Out In the Rain

Minter stood in the rain. The gate in front of her was closed, iron bars set like pain against the green garden inside. Inside she sensed some hope of peace and something real. She was locked out by bars of pain.

She had traveled thousands of miles from her home in Nebraska, Grand Island, to stand in the rain. She was happy to be there. It was better than where she had been in the heart of the world, on the great plains, broad lands of grass and rivers running through.
